SKOLWANE - MUSIC MADE EXTRA ORDINARY

SKOLWANE - MUSIC MADE  EXTRA ORDINARY By RubySage   27 March 2026     As we navigate through our days, inevitably, we will constantly meet people from all walks of life.   However, finding ‘your’ kind of people, the type of people that you feel an instant connection with is a less frequent occurrence.   I have been privileged enough to meet a number of ‘my people’ since starting my journey in the local live music scene.   And one of these ‘my tribe’ kind of people is Skolwane ’s Wesley .   Oddly enough, it was another one of ‘my tribe’ kind of people, ex Skolwane and current Indie Dog drummer, Dylan, who put us in contact.   (Thank you, Dylan!)   Skolwane played at one of my gigs recently and I jumped at the opportunity to secure an ‘interview’ with their front man, Wesley, for Ruby’s Review and for this blog.   It was imperative that I find out more about this person and his amazing band!   And on t...

CEREAL SAUCE - WHAT'S IN A NAME?

CEREAL SAUCE - WHAT'S IN A NAME? by RubySage 20 March 2026 Cereal Sauce is the band you didn't know that you needed, and now can't live without.   Well that is my experience and I'm sure, if you don't already, will soon feel the same.   This upcoming three piece band has impressed me more and more with each show I’ve seen them play…the sky is not the limit.   I imagine Cereal Sauce has the potential, drive and dream, bug enough to break through the atmosphere!   ** TO INFINITY AND BEYOND**   I met the original three piece band, Cereal Sauce a year or two ago - I don’t know…with the way time flies by these days, I find it increasingly hard to keep track – I immediately found myself swept up in their rhythmic magic.   They bring an alluring punk rock vibe to the stage that lingers long after the amps are turned off and the stage packed up.   An unforgettable experience that leaves you wanting more is what you can expect when encountering Cere...

A MAN MADE OF MUSIC - MARCEL ROSSOUW SWIMMER

A MAN MADE OF MUSIC By RubySage 13 March 2026 I don’t remember when exactly it was that I met Marcel for the first time; I just know that I am glad I did.   If there is one musician whom I would take advice from – and by that I mean,  ‘not just listen and nod my head with glazed over eyes , ending with me doing what I feel is best for me anyway’,  I mean, actually listen and apply.       His music ‘speaks to me’.  I know that sounds so clichéd.  It’s true though, his music has a way of seeking out the deepest parts of my soul; parts that have been tucked away and kept from a world that would find a way to depreciate them.     It is true; this review was definitely one of the slowest to reach my blog, not because I am so incredibly busy, or lazy or too busy procrastinating.  But rather because  Marcel Roussuw  is someone who I have the world of time, admiration and respect for.    Finding the right words...

DO IT INDIE DOG STYLE by RubySage 30 January 2026 This four piece alt rock band, who obviously need no introduction, have built a large loyal fan base with their unique blend of grudge, funk and rock music. I must have been a very good girl last year, because as 2025 was fast drawing to a close, Santa came to visit early!  I got invited out to  Smoking Kills Bar in Melville , where I was fortunate enough to catch up with the unforgettable, electrifying alt rock band, INDIE DOG .     As if that wasn’t fantastic and festive enough, I bumped into many familiar faces… friends whom I didn’t get to see enough of last year!   Nomadic Studio’s Dylan , being one…only to learn, on that very same evening, that he is the new Indie Dog drummer.    Well let me tell you… that was evening was another BEST NIGHT ever for me!   The evening was abuzz with an air of festivity.   And t here I was surrounded by many shiny happy people, dancing to some fabulous ...

Rocking the Stage - Scream In Colours  By RubySage 6 March 2026 Who would think to put the words 'scream' and 'Colour' together?  Only the most colourful of imaginations, that's who!   Picture the scene... You are at a rock concert.  After much anticipation and what feels like the longest wait ever, one of you favourite of favourite bands take the stage and what do you do?  Well if you are anything like me, you scream… and if you are a lot like me, you scream in Colours!    And that is exactly the scene at Sonage on Friday, …….  Sean McBride and I were invited to the Amber Light Choices Album launch, with Scream in Colours as one of the supporting acts.   It had been quite some time since I last had the opportunity to catch this band live, as I am sure you can imagine, my excitement barometer was peaking!  For me personally, Scream in Colours has to be one of THE best bands to watch live.  Not only do they f...
