CEREAL SAUCE - WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Cereal Sauce is the band you didn't know that you needed, and now can't live without.  Well that is my experience and I'm sure, if you don't already, will soon feel the same.  This upcoming three piece band has impressed me more and more with each show I’ve seen them play…the sky is not the limit.  I imagine Cereal Sauce has the potential, drive and dream, bug enough to break through the atmosphere!  ** TO INFINITY AND BEYOND**

I met the original three piece band, Cereal Sauce a year or two ago - I don’t know…with the way time flies by these days, I find it increasingly hard to keep track – I immediately found myself swept up in their rhythmic magic.  They bring an alluring punk rock vibe to the stage that lingers long after the amps are turned off and the stage packed up.

An unforgettable experience that leaves you wanting more is what you can expect when encountering Cereal Sauce, on and off stage!  That is why I’ve decided to share this magic with you.  I spoke to Kuveshen Naidoo, Front man, lead guitar and vocalist of Cereal Sauce… here is what we spoke about…

 1. Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.. Who are you? Have you always wanted to make music... How old where you when you realized that's what you want to do?

A: I’m Kuveshen. It was in primarily school when my dad influenced my love for rock music.  He was a big fan of Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, CCR etc.  I was about 15 years old  or so when I decided that this is what I wanted.  It was bands such as AC/ DC that inspired me to pick up the guitar.  Nirvana inspired me to start writing.

 2. Q: Who are the Band members?

A: I'm on guitar and vocals, Tristan Leech on the bass, and (now) Baron De Ponte on the drums

3. Q: Who writes your songs or Is it a team effort?

A: I’d say it’s a team effort.  We often come into practice with bits and pieces - fragments of songs, and we slowly assemble them into the finished product  as we go.  I must say, I appreciate the collaboration as the guys help stop me from falling into some of my bad song writing habits. (??????????? And, of course I had to ask the question...)

Q: What bad habits?

A: Ah yeah that's a fair question. The main one is neglecting dynamics. My first instinct is always to make a song loud the whole way through and the guys remind me that the loud parts are more impactful when there's contrast. I also tend to write bass parts that are just root notes and that's pretty lame. Thankfully Tristan knows how to write awesome parts!

4. Q: What inspires you to write what you write ?  Random thoughts...? Emotion... ? or are your songs message ..?

A: I draw inspiration from my own emotions most of the time. My mind tends to wander a lot which gives me loads of material to work with.

5. Q: Tell us about the journey of Cereal Sauce.... How/ when /where/why/ who.. And Why the name Cereal Sauce?

A: We first got together in 2022.  Our innitial line up was Tristan and myself, with Dayna on the drums.  and we formed Cereal Sauce after our respective first bands had all drifted apart.

And as for the name is based on this dumbass meme that says “Milk is just Cereal Sauce. Change my mind

6.Q: Share one awkward fact/embarrassing moment (maybe at a show  or something random ) about you that we don't know.

A: Plenty of embarrassing moments from my first band The Suburbans. One that stands out was when I was really worried about dropping my pick on stage when we coordinated to do a clapping section for a song. So naturally we tied the pick to my wrist using a piece of string. It looked stupid as hell, obviously.

7. Q: Any upcoming gigs we can look out for?

A: We don’t have any upcoming gigs right now. We’re focusing on writing some new stuff and getting comfortable with the new lineup - which includes Baron De Ponte on drums.

8. Q: Where can we find your music?

A: On all the major streaming platforms and on bandcamp

9.Q: One word of advice for new upcoming musos?

A: Consistency is the one thing I’d emphasise above all. Especially for writing. It can take a long time before you feel comfortable with what you’ve written. I know it did for me so I only wish I’d started earlier. The same goes for performing. Practice is the only way to become a good performer so perform wherever you can as often as possible.

10. Q: Share one fun fact that we don't know about you.

A: I’m a qualified level 1 snowboarding instructor. (Whaaaat!?  - So, naturally  I double checked that Id heard right - and yes...It's true.  Kuveshen went to Canada in 2019 for the course and IS in fact a  level 1 snowboarding instructor - NICE ONE, K!)

11) Q: The song God. Who wrote it... What's is about and /or why'd you write it?

A: The lyrics to God were written by the drummer from The Suburbans. It was about his relationship that had just ended. At least that's the prevailing theory.

12. Q: So, a little birdy old me that Dayna is leaving.  How long has she been part of the Cereal Sauce family, when is she leaving...and why?

and whilst on the note, is Baron your new drummer - not just a fill in for the previous gig?

A: Dayna has been with us since the beginning three years ago. She's leaving at the end of this month because she got a job offer in Mauritius that was way too good to pass up.

And yes Baron is now definitely the newest member

Q: Any special message for her?

b: Yes. My message to Dayna is; "Good luck with everything in Mauritius. I know you're going to crush it. Thank you for your friendship over the years and for your contributions to the music and general good vibes and we're all going to miss you like crazy"

That, my dear readers is all I have for you today.  And maybe one piece of advice.  that being ,If you haven't as of yet,  that you check out Cereal Sause TODAY! you wont be disappointed.
