LunaE Lane, a fans favourite, stands as an emblem of creativity and resilience in South Africa’s ever-evolving music scene. With their, community engagement, infectious sound and heartfelt messages, they are not just a band; they are storytellers shaping the musical narrative of a generation.

I entered the local music scene at an exciting time.  The name LunaE Lane was on every ones lips as they were fast becoming the talk of the town. Fast forward three years…

With their return from this year’s STRAB fest, (held annually in Mozambique) and the release their new single, ‘Would You Love me?, which dropped today ( Friday, 5 June 2026), It stands to reason that they be featured as Ruby’s  Muso of the Moment this week.

From my very first interview and review until now, one question I always ask artists is to share some bragging rights … well this week; I will share one of my own bragging rights with you.

Some three years ago, I made the decision to take a leap in the direction of following one of my own dreams, to sing. Cutting a long story short (and to spare you the usual bells and whistles Id usually add) one of my own bragging rights, is that my very first time singing on stage was with the boys from LunaE Lane, who, in support of  big dreaming newbie, LarRy- aka me. This was a Proud moment for me…truly.

The name, ‘LunaE Lane’ continues to gain traction with their many live performances at local venues and music festivals.  Put them on any stage, from a rustic makeshift stage to the  Barnyard Theatre stage, they  will, every time, deliver an energetic and unforgettable stage presence and demonstrate their  strong musicality skills.   Blending the grit of classic rock with the soulful groove of country and blues, the band delivers a nostalgic yet fresh sound that resonates across generations, LunaE Lane isn’t here to play it safe, they are here to shape and make the magic!

I chatted to Brandon about all this awesomeness…read on if you want to know more about all that is legendary!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.  Who is Brandon on and off the stage?

A: On stage, he's lost in the music, off stage he's just trying to get back on stage.

Q: Tell us about your music journey. When did you pick up your first instrument? What inspired you to? And when did you start writing songs?

A: I started fiddling with the guitar around the age of 12, was my grandad who kinda got me into it and it just took hold... I didn't do much learning of other songs, I played chords and chipmunked what I was feeling.

Q: Working full time, being a dad, and a musician keeps you incredibly busy. How do you stay motivated?

A: So I currently only do music for a living, you know? All in or nothing at all and it's been tough, but the wins motivate the next attempt and the flops are just part of life on life's terms. Being a dad is the best thing in the world... I would trade anything to be just that.

Q: Your band has a unique style and stage personality that is quite intoxicating with an unforgettable name like LunaE Lane. Tell us more about the band and the name.

A: Well we found each other I think at the right time for the right reasons and up to now it's just worked, they're the lekkeste mense, and everyone loves what they do - that's what matters and what keeps it going.

The name comes from my obsession with the cosmos, the universe and all the shiny things in the sky. I've got a silly attraction to the moon, it's beautiful and it's always there even when you can't see it.

Q: Where do you draw inspiration from to write your songs? What is your writing process?

A: Life and it's happenings, my own and those around me, sometimes a movie, or a story and the pieces fall in place when you put yourself in their shoes... I don't have a set process, but I do a lot of half songs in the moment when that 'thing' strikes. Go back, see if the story has changed and wait for an ending... sometimes it takes a few minutes, sometimes it takes a few months... just depends really. I dunno... some songs can start with one line, and it'll lay there for a month... and when life happens so does the story and then it evolves into something we call a song.

Q: How do you feel the Internet and AI have impacted the music business?

A: I think they have their pros and cons, even Ai in all it's forms. But I don't care too much for Ai as a creator, more like a skivvy that can do things for you... It's here to stay... we must evolve.

Q:  Which famous musicians do you admire and why?

A: There are so many... my favorite has always been Bob Dylan, he's a song and dance man.

Q: What is the most trouble you've (you or the band) ever gotten into?

A:  I've been in lots of trouble, Lloyd has been in way more, Cuyler has crazy wild stories and Hugene is the sweetest guy you'll ever meet... we're very well behaved - or we just haven't been caught yet.

Q: What is your absolute favorite sound that is entirely unrelated to music?

A: The sound of a hike, a stream on a nice warm breezy day and all its accents. Like the wind, birds, your footsteps on the ground. I dunno, can't choose one.

Q: If your guitar suddenly developed the ability to talk, what is the very first complaint it would make about you?

A: I think IT would ask for better housing. And maybe a raise.

Q:  What is the most spectacularly useless real-world talent you possess that nobody would ever guess?

A: Lack of road rage...

Q: What is one piece of advice another musician gave you that you completely ignored, only to realize years later they were actually right?

A: I haven't realized it yet.

Q: Share one awkward fact or embarrassing moment. (Personal or band related)

A: I played the last half of a set in drop d tuning and could not figure out why it sounded so kak.

Q:  Tell us more about your new single. What is it about? What inspired you to write it etc. And which one of your own songs is your favorite, and why?

A: It's called 'Would You Love Me' and it's about one human trying to be a better human for their human. And being human, the water may spill... will their human love them still...?

I've got a few favorites, most of them haven't seen a studio yet.

Q:  If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

A: Turn the clocks back to Woodstock!

Q:  Share some band bragging rights or "Aha!" moments.

A: We did STRAB at Mozambique recently...

Q: Any pearls of wisdom for new, upcoming artists?

A: Just do it, don't try... just do and keep doing.

Open every door and if it doesn't  budge, kick the door... still not working?  Then find a way in through the window.

Q: Any message(s) for your fans?

A: Without you, the music won't stop, but the magic does. We love and appreciate you more than you know.

Q: Why do you call Ruby LarRy? (she loves it BTW, but people ask....and I'm not telling... Mainly Cos I can't remember lol)

A: Hahaha, I can't quite remember either, I think I just got your name wrong and you responded to it so I kept it going...

Q: Where can we find you and your music? And any upcoming gigs etc to look forward to?

A:  LunaE Lane on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube... All major DSPs and alot of our content gets posted on Tiktok @MollyLeftTown
