 THE ELEAZAR STRACHAN EXPERIENCE

Eleazar once told me... If you want to know me.... Listen to the words of my songs.  An art I never fully managed to master,  until years later.

But not for any reason in particular...simply because,  I personally didn't 'get it'.  Let me explain why.  And this is my personal opinion... whether  you agree or not is irrelevant ..because this my perspective.

Eleazar has always been a Bob Dylan double of sorts…and pulls it off shockingly well.  And as awesome as Bob Dylan is, it's no secret that I have always ben of the opinion that he need to articulate  … ( Bob... Not Eleazar) and a lot of Eleazar's work was mostly derived from a 'Bob Dylan' type style).  Maybe now would be a good time to mention  that there actually are a number of Bob Dylan songs that I do occasionally  enjoy listening to and are on my playlist.  I just found that most of his music (that I've heard) is audibly not particularly pleasing ..to my ears... therefore listening to the words of Eleazar's songs often proved very difficult as I could not hear them clearly and therefore, didn't understand them.

That has  changed quite considerably of late as some of his new work, has a new, clearer and almost an experimental vibe to it.  I would be amiss to say that,  in a sense, I can live myself into his newer work more...a lot of it resonates with me.  Its fresh... unexpected and  just hits different....it is only now, for the first time in all the years I've known Eleazar, that I don't just hear his music.... I experience it.

It almost feels like  I'm meeting his music in a brand new, yet familiar space.... I don't hear it necessarily, it's more like  I can feel it.... Loudly.... And can identify with a lot of it... I'd go as far as to say that even if he sang it in a foreign language that Id be unversed in, , I'd still  'get' it.   There is  deep emotion embedded in his newer work.... An emotion that carries a sense of familiarity. .

For instance,  Million miles  is a particularly moving song.  admittedly,  I cried the first time I heard it.... wait...No, correction, the first time I listened to it.  It is passion filled.  It's Raw.  It's real and heartfelt.  And, somehow, it manages to capture me in a very different way... In a beautiful, mysterious kind of way.... almost a knowing...but not quite.

In this song he managed to Teleport me to that place...  the space... that place being the picture he paints by means of lyrics in the song.  When you hear it... you will understand what I mean, I'm sure.  As I can only imagine that you will feel the   same way.

His Afrikaans songStilte Has a conjures up a deep, soul searching, endearing yet heart wrenching feelings.  He sing this song with so much conviction and from his soul. so raw, one cannot help but heed the call of the journey down memory lane .  As we have all experienced love, loss and longing at some point this song, Stilte cuts right to the root of it...Through nostalgic or grave thoughts and memories, either way, it will captivate a part of your soul.

Then there's Thoughts on woody  - a completely different, upbeat, fast paced catchy , yet painstakingly relevant song.   One that feels all too familiar.  I've been trying to come up with the right words or the best way to describe this song.

Simply listening to the song feels  like spending time... an actual moment, a day and hour or two, with Eleazar (I don't know... Maybe it's just me...) but at the same time, it's can also be likened to spending time with myself...on my own.... and with my own thoughts....

His new experimental work feels more real, somehow.   Maybe even a little haunted.  I found that listening to it evokes an emotion... Or two  ..or three... that would mimic what you'd feel  looking in a mirror.... Or how'd experience and enjoy that first cup of coffee in the morning.

Eleazar has managed to achieve that one thing all artists strive for..... Connection. He plays the part exceptionally well and could and would manage to convert any 'non believer' with his charm, all round food guy persona and skilled use of words.
